Did Your Heater Stop Working?

There are many reasons that a furnace may not be working correctly. If you find yourself without heat, do not immediately assume that the furnace is permanently broken. Most likely, it is a problem that can be identified and corrected. Here is a list of some common furnace problems:

Air Filter
If your furnace's air filter is dirty or dusty, it may slow or stop the flow of air into your home. Filters should be replaced every one to three months.

Leaky Ducts
Poor insulation or cracks in your ducts will keep your home from being warm by trapping the warm air. If this is the case, you should bring in a professional to inspect the problem.

Old Furnace
If your furnace is more than fifteen years old, it may not be running as efficiently as the newer models. The more efficient your furnace is, the lower your energy costs will be.

Finally, the most common furnace and heating problem is simply lack of maintenance. Furnaces need to be cleaned and maintained for optimum performance. Furnaces should be professionally cleaned and/or repaired at least once per year.
